Seed Saving | October 19
Join Hanna Jacobs from Matchbox Garden & Seed Co. for tips and techniques for harvesting, packaging and storing seeds and discover how saving seeds is important to saving genetic diversity.
Facilitator: Hanna Jacobs grew up on a horse farm just north of Toronto and spent much of her 20’s travelling throughout Europe and North America. A passion for feeding people quickly transformed from cooking meals to farming vegetables and herbs. Inspired by her first chef, Jacobs’ mantra in the kitchen and on the farm is always, “your meal is only as good as your raw ingredients.”
In 2006 she began Matchbox Garden & Seed Co. as a way to provide reliable and safe food for her family and others in the community. Started as an urban backyard garden in downtown Toronto, Matchbox has expanded to a 4 acre market garden and contracted again to our current size of 2 acres. They produce over 100 varieties of open pollinated, heirloom and rare vegetables, herbs, flowers, seed and seedlings.
