Largest fundraising effort underway on Eastern Georgian Bay Coast for two conservation organizations

Together, the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) and the Georgian Bay Land Trust (GBLT) are engaged in an urgent fundraising effort to raise over $2 million to purchase and steward a large portion of Sandy Island, located on the Eastern Georgian Bay Coast west of Parry Sound.
Known for its incredible biological value, Sandy Island is a top priority for the partner organizations, who are collaborating to achieve significant conservation on the world’s largest fresh water archipelago.

Ottawa can’t shift green rebates into gear

More than four months after announcing rebates for those who buy fuel-sipping cars and trucks, the federal government has not paid a cent to buyers of 2006 and 2007 models that qualify, and automakers are voicing complaints as 2008 models flow on to dealers’ lots.
The ecoAuto feebate program set up in the March federal budget, offers rebates of up to $2,000 and also slaps a maximum levy of $4,000 on gas guzzlers. But it is angering consumers and growing increasingly messy for the auto companies, associations representing the major automakers operating in Canada say in a letter to Transport Minister Lawrence Cannon, Finance Minister Jim Flaherty and Environment Minister John Baird.

Ontario Urban Forest Council

The Ontario Urban Forest Council (OUFC) is a non-profit group that works to advance the conservation and maintenance of urban forests across Ontario. We also provide technical support for groups addressing urban forestry issues and offer various workshops on a wide range of topics. We work in partnership with all sectors, bringing together professionals, academics, industry, government and the general public in a multi- stakeholder approach to urban forest conservation.

Organic Producers Association of Manitoba

In the summer of 1988, fourteen individuals with an interest in the future of organic agriculture and an awareness of the need for a formal organization of organic producers and processors attended an informational meeting to discuss the establishment of a provincial certification body. From that meeting came the desire and mandate to establish an organization that would unite the organic community and promote organic agriculture in Manitoba. As a result, in November 1988, the Organic Producers Association of Manitoba registered as a formal co-operative under the Manitoba Chapter Co-operatives Act.

The Saskatchewan Organic Directorate is an umbrella organization that unites the province’s producers, processors, buyers, traders, certifiers and consumers of certified organic food and fibre.

It is incorporated as a non-profit membership organization. SOD’s mission statement is “To champion the development of organic agriculture in a democratic manner” and the Vision Statement is “Food for Life”.
