Appalachian Corridor is launching its new Interactive map on the web

ACA’s territory extends over over 2900 square km, is rich of a
multitude of natural habitats and ecological treasures, and includes
over 13 000 hectares of protected land. Over a dozen organisations are
involved in the protection of these fragile natural sites and act as
environmental watchdogs in their area. ACA’s terrirory includes two
administrative regions (Estrie and Montérégie), four MRCs and numerous
municipalities.

ACA is proud to provide website users with an interactive map of its
territory. Familiarise yourselves with this new and original web tool
and see how you can discover more about the territory and conservation
strategy of ACA and its affilated members.

There is no doubt – Building Green is popular in Atlantic Canada

Attendance at the recent Building Green Conference and Trade Show held on the NSCC Waterfront campus was more than 50% greater than organizers had anticipated. “We’re just thrilled with the way things turned out,” says conference co-chair Jennifer MacNeil.
Co-hosted by the Atlantic Chapter of the Canada Green Building Council and the NSCC, organizers plan to make this an annual event.
And, if this is any indication of things to come, organizers should be planning for a much larger event next year. “When the US green building council got started with their first green conference they had a couple hundred people – and last year in Chicago they had 26 thousand,” points out CaGBC Atlantic Co Chair John Crace. “So that gives you an idea of how fast things can grow.”

Greater Vancouver’s Leadership in Smart Growth Slips

Despite impressive growth in pedestrian-friendly neighbourhoods in some parts of the region, Greater Vancouver’s overall smart-growth record slipped in recent years, according to a new analysis by Seattle-based think tank Sightline Institute. From 2001 through 2006, the share of new urban and suburban growth that went into compact, walkable communities declined and the amount of land developed to accommodate new residents increased, compared with the 1990s.

TORONTO, May 22 /CNW/ – The Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation today announced the first Tour de Greenbelt, an innovative and exciting opportunity for Ontarians and visitors to bicycle their way through open air adventure in Ontario’s Greenbelt. This family-oriented cycling Tour is both accessible and affordable to all, with numerous attractions and special events. Described as a ‘fresh air festival on wheels,’ the Tour will take place over four distinct routes in the early fall this year – September 20 & 21 and September 27 & 28. Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC), Canada’s leading outdoor retailer, has joined with the Greenbelt Foundation as the presenting sponsor of the Tour.

The Tour de Greenbelt provides unprecedented support for bicycling in Ontario with 100% of Tour pledge monies going directly to participating cycling clubs to support an active and safe cycling network in Ontario.
