Blessed with intact landscapes and teeming with wildlife, the Badger-Two Medicine region is an ecological gem worth protecting in northwestern Montana.

But it is so much more than that. For the 17,000 tribal members of the Blackfeet Nation, whose ancestors have utilized the Badger-Two Medicine for more than 10,000 years, this region is sacred—an integral part of their cultural identity, and the location of their origin story.

Today, Badger-Two Medicine is under threat from illegally granted leases for oil and gas drilling, which would compromise the area’s healthy ecosystems and wildlife populations, and deal a major blow to the Blackfeet peoples’ cultural values.

The Blackfeet Nation is leading a broad collaboration of citizens and groups, including the Crown of the Continent Conservation Initiative, and concerned citizens from far and wide, to protect their sacred homeland.

The following video, released by the Blackfeet Nation and members of Pearl Jam, reflects both the diversity of this support and, most importantly, the genuine passion the Blackfeet people feel for this sacred region.
