The need to reframe our conversations about environmental concerns has emerged as a key priority for many who work to protect the health of our small blue planet.
Solid scientific research pointing to the impacts of climate change, degraded water quality, habitat destruction and toxics have failed to mobilize sufficient public, government or corporate action to address these and a host of other environmental issues. As communicators, we are just not connecting.
To help tackle this problem, the Sustainability Network and the Canadian Environmental Grantmakers’ Network (CEGN) are hosting “Public Narrative 101 Workshop” on November 17th and 18th in Toronto. The workshop will be facilitated by Jim Hoggan, President of Hoggan and Associates, an award-winning strategic communications firm based in Vancouver.
When:
Monday, November 17th – 6 pm – 8:30 pm (Dinner and Introduction)
Tuesday, November 18th – 9 am – 5 pm (Workshop)
Where:
Dinner venue tbc
Workshop (Nov. 18) – 215 Spadina Avenue
Centre for Social Innovation (Ground Floor Connector), Toronto
The public narrative practice Jim will be presenting is drawn from the work of Marshall Ganz. A veteran American civil rights organizer, Ganz cut his teeth with Cesar Chavez and the United Farm Workers Movement and was the lead strategist behind Obama’s winning election and re-election campaigns. He is a senior lecturer at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
