Restore Vancouver’s green space with the Lower Mainland Green Team

The Lower Mainland Green Team is running a series of restoration and stewardship events throughout the Vancouver region. Activities will involve everything from invasive plant and ivy removal to native flora and tree planting.

Guichon Creek, Burnaby
September 25, 10am-1pm
After being damaged and converted to a drainage channel over 40 years ago, Guichon Creek was restored to largely a natural state thanks to BCIT, with the support from the City of Burnaby and numerous donors. Guichon Creek is fast becoming a great example of urban stream restoration.

Harvest organic veggies at Earthwise Society, Delta 
October 1, 8am-11am
Although much of Delta’s land is farmed, residents have little opportunity to purchase locally grown produce or to see how our food is grown. The Earthwise Farm raises public awareness about the value of local food production and learn about the environmental benefits of sustainable farming practices.

Pacific Spirit Regional Park, Vancouver
October 11, 10am-1pm
Pacific Spirit Regional Park is the largest green space remaining in Metro Vancouver (aside from the North Shore Mountains) and comprises 763 hectares of forest. The park contains 54 km of walking/hiking trails. There are beaches, marshes and forest. Tall cedar, hemlock, douglas fir mixed in with bitter cherry, red alder and maple. Eagles, Great Blue Herons and songbirds frequent this park.

Chantrell Park, South Surrey
October 29, 10am-1pm
Sunnyside Acres Heritage Society has been involved in habitat enhancement at Chantrell Park park for several years, in particular in the removal of Himalayan Blackberry. It is a natural area with trails.

Remove Ivy at Minnekhada Regional Park, Coquitlam
November 6, 10am-1pm
There has never been an organized group in Minnekhada Regional Park to remove ivy before and it is spreading!

Weekday Ivy removal at Capilano Park, North Vancouver

Weekday invasive plant removal at Jericho Park,Vancouver
