RETIREMENT. Sue McGregor-Hunter, Executive Director of Peterborough Green-Up, will retire 11 June. During her 10-year tenure, Green-Up expanded from eight employees to more than 20. The number of environmental programs also increased. “I have had an amazing, enriching experience working for Green-Up and I believe the organization is in a good position to continue its success.” See job posting.

BOW NEWS. Biosphere Institute of the Bow Valley visited residents door-to-door to talk about sustainability as part of the Sustainable Action Canmore Program. See brochure … Bow Valley Climate Kids Project provides students the opportunity to raise awareness about climate change impacts … Canmore Community Monitoring Program helps identifying risk areas that threaten the health of the community. Biosphere Institute developed indicators and monitoring frameworks.  2008 Report now online.

COMPOSTING NETWORK. Green Calgary offers Bokashi compost kits and vermi-composting workshop, 25 February … A Kamloops woman is looking to form a Bokashi Composter Co-op … Olympics’ food waste and human bio-solids are turned into compost in Whistler.

CAMPUS ECOSTORE. Green Calgary’s new EcoStore, located at local university, provides eco-school supplies and green housewares such as eco-clam shells.

GOING SOLAR. Bob Argue, of EcoPerth, cautions rural land owners looking at lending their land for solar farms … Solar energy will account for 10% of electricity use in the US by 2025, says studySolar module recycling plants are in the works.

FIT WEBINAR. Web-enabled teleconference on Ontario’s Feed-in Tariff (FIT) Program’s domestic content requirement, 25 February. OPA’s FIT Program (renewable energy generating projects above 10 kilowatts) received 1,300 applications so far; microFIT Program (projects less than 10 kW) received  4,400.

ECO-FUNDRAISING. Canadian School Eco-Fundraising Program delivers age appropriate curriculum, carbon neutrality for participating schools and funds for schools and classrooms. By the Canadian Public Employee Acquisition Club, which couples crowd clout with the Intention Economy.

GREEN BUDGET. Canadian Green Budget Coalition prioritizes three actions for 2010 federal budget: protecting ecosystems and biodiversity; investing in Canada’s freshwater future; and re-investing in renewable energy.

HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT. Docs Talk monthly blog brings a medical perspective on current environmental issues and the implications for health.  By David Suzuki Foundation and Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment.
