Calgary’s Green Business Report to be released March 30th

Calgary’s first Green Business Report will be released on Monday March 30th by Calgary
Economic Development and REAP, Calgary’s only sustainable business association.
“More and more small and medium sized businesses are asking for information about how to go green,” says Stephanie Jackman, the president of REAP. “I field calls regularly from business people asking for information; looking for this sort of how-to guide.”
The Green Business Report will highlight four key elements of business – energy use, transportation, waste, and supply chain – which produce the largest environmental impact, and suggest practical ways for small and medium sized enterprises to reduce their effects.
“Small and medium sized organizations are always looking for measurable and achievable ways to improve and compete,” says Katie Emond, research manager for Calgary Economic Development. “We are delighted to help bring cost-saving and environmentally friendly initiatives into focus for the business community. This sort of dialogue is exactly why Calgary’s economic landscape will continue to be strong and sustainable.”
There are more than 45,000 businesses in Calgary that employ 50 employees or less – accounting for more than 70 per cent of all Calgary businesses. Per capita, Calgary has the highest proportion of small businesses in Canada (40.2 per 1,000 population).
Stephanie Jackman of REAP and Katie Emond of Calgary Economic Development will present the Green Business Report at the Downtown Calgary Public Library, March 30 at 11:30am.
The Green Business Report is the first in a series of lectures on sustainable business, which will take place until Friday, April 3 at the Calgary Public Library. The speaker series is a part of REAP’s Down to Earth Week, a seven day celebration of sustainable living in Calgary.
