Mayor Stephen Mandel joined City employees, key stakeholders and partners to step up their actions to reduce their environmental footprint in preparation for ICLEI World Congress 2009.
The Mayor launched the City’s latest campaign, ‘Go Green! It’s Our Nature’ in recognition of Environment Week. He asked Edmontonians to reduce their environmental footprint by taking at least two new actions that benefit the environment.
“This is really a collaborative effort between the City and its residents. The city empowers citizens with its programs like blue bag recycling, litter reduction, grasscycling and Carbon Dioxide Reduction Edmonton (CO2RE) but it’s the citizens who take action to make that happen.” said Mayor Mandel.
Citizens can use a footprint calculator to measure their progress in reducing their footprint from now until June 2009. The calculator will be available at www.edmonton.ca/ecovision.
The Go Green! It’s Our Nature campaign is part of EcoVision Edmonton, Council’s vision for an environmentally sustainable city.
