We’re Green 2.0

Although I can relate to my colleague’s rantings about “No more 2.0“, I could also not help but take the opportunity to show how we are doing our version of “Green 2.0” here. As some of you have noticed, we took another web re-design leap and revamped thegreenpages.ca web site to not only help share environmental stories but to encourage discussion and social change across Canada.

Along with a mean, lean, “greener” design, we also decided to really focus on utilizing effective Web 2.0 type technologies and services throughout the site. These include dependable and scalable services such as Flickr, ShareThis, FeedBurner, Google CSE, del.cio.us, and Upcoming. More information about “what”, “how”, and most importantly “why” we use them will be documented under our “Getting Social” post.

We also have some exciting news, upgrades, and partnerships that we are currently working on…

• Work Opportunities is a new section on thegreenpages.ca. We are working with some of Canada’s leading organizations that provide meaningful learning, work, and volunteer postings from across Canada. Each province and territory has a Work Opportunity section and visitors can subscribe to the latest postings via RSS feed or by email.
• This summer, The Canadian Graduate Programs in Environmental Studies (CGPES) Directory will be featured on thegreenpages.ca web site. The 2007 edition will be on sale courtesy of Queen’s University – School of Environmental Studies. I really wish I had something like when I was looking at environmental schools….
• Mark Leiren-Young’s “Trees and Us” podcast’s series will be part of thegreenpages.ca network. In this series, Mark Leiren-Young talks to people who have unique perspectives on forests and the environment. Past interviews include Severn Cullis-Suzuki, Oliver Hodge, Tzeporah Berman and many more. All podcasts will be searchable in iTunes.
