CPAWS News: Ottawa to create protected zone in northern Lake Superior

A section of Lake Superior’s North Shore, known for its pristine fresh water supply, will be declared a protected marine area, Prime Minister Stephen Harper is set to announce [on October 25].

…”We have about eight per cent protected land across the country and in water, we have less than one per cent, so we have a way to move forward,” said Sabine Jessen, of the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society.
