Environment Canada Improving Weatheradio Network to Enhance Delivery of Warnings to the Public

Environment Canada today announced the first step in the modernization of Environment Canada's Weatheradio Network. The major improvement to the Weatheradio network is the addition of the capability to broadcast Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) and Specific Area Messaging Encoding (SAME) codes. This addition will permit future expansion to include a suite of non weather related public emergency warning messages such as child abduction emergency (Amber Alert), Boil Water alert or Civil emergency messages.
