Teck Cominco Metals ltd. Sentenced for Polluting Nunavut’s Environment

Teck Cominco Metals Ltd., the operators of the Polaris Mine in northern Nunavut, have now been sentenced after pleading guilty in Nunavut Territorial Court on July 16, 2003 to one count of violating Subsection 36(3) of the federal Fisheries Act. The sentence included a fine of $5,000 and a contribution of $25,000 to promote fish and fish habitat in Nunavut.
