Greenpeace and ForestEthics joined together to
release a report with local conservation groups to call for the protection of
the Chinchaga Wilderness in the Boreal forest of northwestern Alberta. The
international groups are demanding a moratorium on further development of this
Endangered Forest region. The moratorium would remain in effect until
permanent legal protection for the area is established and transition funding
is provided for affected communities. With less than 2% of the Boreal Eastern
Foothills eco-region currently protected, the Chinchaga is a conservation
priority.
