Pesticides in our produce

While washing and rinsing fresh produce may reduce levels of some pesticides, it does not eliminate them. The Environmental Working Group (EWG) published a list based on a 5 year analysis (completed in 2005), that shows which food consistently scored the highest in pesticide levels and toxicity and which scored the lowest.

Even though it is based on U.S. information, it is still relevant to Canadians as 80 percent of our produce is imported – where the majority of it comes from south of the border.

UBC Vancouver Dollar Project

Vancouver, B.C. (March 10, 2008):
The UBC Dollar Project will be holding its biggest event of the year,
the first annual “Dollar Day” on Wednesday March 19, 2008.

Dollar
Day will be a day of charity, fun, and free stuff! A booth will be set
up on campus where everyone can donate $1 for a good cause. In return,
each donor will receive a sticker, which is redeemable for free
popcorn, one entry to our raffle draw, and other goodies. Additional
raffle tickets sell at $1 each. Prizes for the raffle draw include DVD
rental certificates, T-shirts, movie tickets, and more.

The purpose of Dollar Day is to raise awareness and donations for the charities supported by the UBC Dollar Project. We
hope the Dollar Day will be both a day of fun and community building
for UBC and a day of charitable fundraising. We aim to establish Dollar
Day as our annual event to increase the visibility of our club on
campus and thus the important message of global awareness and
responsibility that we are promoting.
