Help the Nature Conservancy clean up Waterton Park

photo

The Nature Conservancy needs your help! Our main goal for the day will be to clean-up a small, but nasty junk pile on the property.

While on site we will also take time to remove a number of ornamental invasives in the same area, including caragana, danesblood and creeping bellflower. Having left their natural “enemies” in their home-land, these invasive plants are able to out-compete the native vegetation.

Date: Tuesday, August 20, 2013
Location: Zieffle Property
Closest Town: Waterton, Alberta
Meeting Time: 9:30am – 3:30pm
Special Features: Family style breakfast at 8am!

The Waterton Park front is a fantastic hiking area that boasts a veriety of wildlife. With more than half of Alberta’s native plant species found in the Waterton area, it is imperative that we protect the local grasses, flowers, shrubs and trees from these invasive plants. Armed with saws and shovels, we will cut down the caragana and dig out the danesblood and creeping bellflower. Join us for the day and be a part of this important operation!

Accomodation is available down the road at Waterton Springs Campground for those wishing to camp out in the area the night before. Please contact the campground directly for availability and rates. join us at 8am for a family style breakfast that will have you energized for the day!
