GRANT AWARDED. RBC Bluewater Project presented Peterborough Green Up Lakeland Alliance, a program providing free consultation services to shoreline property owners in the Kawartha, Haliburton and Bancroft areas, with a grant of $33,200 in support of its Shoreline Advisor Program.
STUDENT ACTION. Green Action Centre (Winnipeg) is calling post-secondary students to Drive Less, Waste Less, and Do More during the Green Challenge Week on Campus, 17-21 October.
LACKING. Commissioner of the Environment and of Sustainable Development’s 2011 October Report shows that Canada is not on track to meet its commitments under the Kyoto Protocol, and may be in violation of the Kyoto Protocol Implementation Act. Report includes: Poor information leaves government unable to properly manage environmental change, Climate change plans don’t measure up; and Impacts of oil sands development on environment are not understood.
GREEN TERMS. Natural, environmentally-friendly, recyclable, water footprint… UK report shows which terms are best understood and more meaningful to the general public. Report says that Energy efficient is one of the most familiar/meaningful of all terms tested.
ENVIRONMENTAL SCHOLARSHIP. TD Scholarships for Community Leadership awards 20 students across Canada who have shown leadership in many areas including environmental cleanup with up to $70, 000 for college or university. Due 31 October.
