5th Annual Conference on Sustainable Campuses to Be Held at Fleming’s Frost Campus in Lindsay January 29 – 31, 2010
Lindsay ON – January 20, 2010 – Fleming College will host the 5th Annual Conference on Sustainable Campuses at its Frost Campus in Lindsay, home of the college’s School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences from January 29th to 31st.
Since 1996, The Sierra Youth Coalition (SYC) has been working with over 80 campuses across Canada to implement the Sustainable Campuses Project. Over 300 students have attended the conference over the past four years.
“The 5th Annual Sustainable Campuses conference presents a wonderful opportunity for Fleming College to host students from Ontario colleges and universities who are passionate about sustainability. The conference provides an exceptional opportunity for students to build knowledge and skills to use in developing sustainability projects," said Linda Skilton, Dean and Principal, Frost Campus, Fleming College. “The conference will also provide an opportunity for Fleming to showcase our leadership in sustainability and environmental issues.”
Conference organizers Sara Kelly, Sustainability Coordinator at the Frost Campus, and Carly Joynt, Ontario Sustainable Campuses Coordinator for the SYC said the three-day conference allows students and campus members the opportunity to tackle difficult issues that face our schools and our world. “This is a chance to develop incredibly creative and efficient solutions to move our schools into a brighter, more sustainable future,” said Kelly.
As host, Fleming College is providing space for the workshops and presentations, accommodations for student participants and the use of equipment. Students and support staff are involved in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the conference.
SYC is a national, youth-driven and non-profit organisation working in Canada. SYC’s mission is to empower young people to become active community leaders who contribute to making Canada a better society.
