A leading green organization in Alberta has re-branded itself. Clean Calgary Association is now known as Green Calgary. The move was a natural one for the non-profit organization. Clean Calgary’s focus, in its early days beginning three decades ago, was all about making Calgary clean and that meant an emphasis on litter.
Today the organization has evolved into much more. Water, energy, environment and waste reduction are just some of the priorities that now drive the green mandate. Plus, with today’s focus on green, it’s far more eye-catching to the public to be known as Green Calgary. The switch in branding was made possible by a $25,000 grant from the Calgary firm William Joseph.
Green Calgary also has a new website too. Despite all the changes, many programs familiar to Calgarians continue, including cellphone recycling, scent-free policy, anti-junk mail efforts, and Idle Free Calgary.
The Idle Free program is an initiative that helps educates citizens to cease idling cars, an action that adds to climate change and creates harmful emissions.
Kudos, too, to Green Calgary for being a member of 1% For The Planet, a non-profit philanthropic endeavour that encourages its members to use their dollars for change.
