A group of Canadian forest industry partners has launched a new informational portal to promote wood as a sustainable building material. The portal serves as an “information hub that shows how using legally harvested forest products in buildings reduces greenhouse gases and helps fight climate change,” says the new Planet Friendly Canada website. “People in the forest industry recognize the importance of Canada’s forests; that is why forests are promptly regenerated after harvesting. And that is why scrutiny on how forests are managed is welcome.”
Among the partners are the Forest Products Association of Canada, BC Forestry Innovation Investment, Coast Forest Products Association, Canadian Wood Council, and the Ontario Forest Industries Association.
“Wood has been a part of our culture throughout time, and for good reason,” Planet Friendly Canada continues. “Wood is an ingenious invention of nature. It is beautiful, light and strong to build with, and warm and welcoming to live with. It is the only major building material that is truly renewable — and it is plentiful in Canada.”
