Toronto residents may be surprised to hear that their local community radio station will soon be heard as far away as Vancouver, BC. That’s because The Green Majority, CIUT’s popular student-powered environmental news feature, has developed into a partnership among a growing number of community stations that is aimed at increasing the accessibility of Canadian environmental news.
CITR 101.9 FM of Vancouver will air TGM on Wednesdays from 1-2PM PST in a pilot beginning on February 6, 2008. This month, Sudbury’s Alternative Radio Station, CKLU 96.7 FM, began airing TGM on Mondays from 1-2PM EST. Friends of Banff National Park, CFPE 101.1 FM, has aired the program several times weekly since August 2007.
To welcome to our new Vancouver partner, the next TGM broadcast will feature a discussion with celebrated Vancouver environmentalist David Suzuki. Other coming highlights include a colourful feature on the drive-thru ban proposed in Vancouver and Toronto, an address by former Environment Minister David Anderson regarding environmental change, and a talk with Robert Miner about his grandfather, Jack Miner, “the Father of Conservation.”
TGM, produced at CIUT by a dedicated team of student volunteers, is the only news hour dedicated to environmental events that affect Canadians. The live edition of TGM airs Fridays from 10-11AM across Southern Ontario on 89.5 FM. Please help us get our important green information to new listeners!
