Do you own your body? Mr. Hamsen, an unemployed labourer discovers that The Genomics Health Group Ltd. has patented a gene found in his body. It might have to be removed. A parody on genetic engineering and intellectual property rights gives pause to what we have unleashed in the race to map and patent the genetic code.
Jan Karpinski was born in Nürnberg, Franken in 1982 and graduated from Werkbund Werkstatt Nürnberg in 2001. In 2002 he studied fine arts at the Hamburg Academy of Fine Arts before moving on to attend the Visual Communications/Media Film Workshop of Wim Wenders in 2003 in Hamburg.
Gabra2, Jan’s second short film, has enjoyed international exposure at several film festivals in North America and Europe.
