TORONTO (ONTARIO) September 1, 2006 – Cotton Ginny gets back to basics this fall with a new, affordable Eco-Ganic clothing line made from 100% certified organic cotton. Known for comfortable, affordable cotton essentials since 1979, Cotton Ginny returns to what it does best with a revitalized collection of women’s and infant products of excellent quality, value and integrity.
The Eco-Ganic line demonstrates Cotton Ginny’s commitment to sustainable style through the use of organic cotton which is grown without the use of toxic pesticides, fertilizers or genetically modified sees and that’s certified by an accredited independent organization such as SKAL (non-profit foundation that specializes in organic certification internationally). Though cotton is a natural fibre, it’s also one of the most chemically treated crops on the planet. It takes one third of a pound of pesticides and fertilizers to produce enough cotton for one single T-shirt.
“Our customers can’t always find affordable organic cotton in a full range of sizes’ says Tony Chahine, Cotton Ginny President & CEO. “I want to offer her all this and the ability to impact people’s lives.”
Cotton Ginny’s Eco-Ganic products include t-shirts, fleece tops, fleece pants, and baby (0 to 24 months). Later this Fall, organic cotton face cloths will be introduced.
The use and support of certified organic cotton is the foundation for Cotton Ginny’s long-term dedication and contribution to the global movement of sustainability – where producers and consumers meet the needs of the present without compromising the future of generations to come.
“By converting to organic cotton, we can limit the negative impact on people and the planet, and hopefully encourage others to do the same,” says Tony Chahine, President. “We’re committed to sustainability and helping farmers grow organic cotton, to improve their quality of life.”
Cotton Ginny has ambitious goals for its Eco-Ganic product line. Currently, 15 per cent of the fall 2006 collection is Eco-Ganic, with the goal to make 100% of its products Eco-Ganic over the next few years. Along with the new line, Cotton Ginny has renovated 10 of its existing stores to reflect its new brand positioning.
