Groundbreaking report reveals massive loss of ancient forests in Quebec

A new report* released today by Global Forest Watch Canada met with a renewed call by Greenpeace to protect boreal forests. The report, using satellite imagery, documented massive devastation of boreal forests from 1990 to 2000 in central and northern Quebec, in large part due to logging and hydro-electric development. The study, one of the largest and most sophisticated of its kind in the world, is a wake-up call to the Quebec government, which lags behind other provinces, in its protection of ancient forests. – Greenpeace Canada
