TORONTO, Sept. 30 /CNW/ – "The second phase of funding from industry
stewards to help pay for municipal “Blue Box” programs starts tomorrow
(October 1) when Stewardship Ontario begins mailing cheques totaling nearly
$4.5 million to 189 recycling programs throughout Ontario,- Damian Bassett,

Stewardship Ontario
is Ontario’s first Industry Funding Organization
(IFO), created in late 2002 in response to a request
from the Ontario Minister of Environment to Waste
Diversion Ontario (WDO) to submit a waste
diversion program for Blue Box wastes. As per Sections
23 and 24 of the Waste
Diversion Act, 2002 the WDO directed
that an IFO be incorporated. As a result, Stewardship
Ontario Inc. applied for incorporation on November
6, 2002.
The Founding Members
of Stewardship Ontario, represented on the Board
of Directors are: the Food and Consumer
Products Manufacturers of Canada (FCPMC), the Canadian
Council of Grocery Distributors (CCGD), Refreshments
Canada, the Retail Council of Canada (RCC), the
Canadian Paint and Coatings Association (CPCA),
the Canadian Consumer Specialty Products Association
(CCSPA), the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO)
and the Canadian Newspaper Association (CNA).
