Chinchaga Wilderness Identified as an Endangered Forest

Local, provincial and international conservation groups have designated the Chinchaga Wilderness in the boreal forest of northwest Alberta as an Endangered Forest. With the release of a booklet on the Chinchaga they are calling for a moratorium on new industrial activity in the Chinchaga region until a legislated protected area is established through a land-use planning process. In addition, a petition signed by 5,000 Albertans calling for the protection of the Chinchaga was delivered to the legislature today. In total, over 10,000 Albertans have now expressed their desire to see the Chinchaga protected.
