EMAN CO, in partnership with the Canadian Nature Federation, conducted a pilot project over the past year to create a network of communities across Canada engaged in community-based ecological monitoring called the Canadian Community Monitoring Network. Over 12,000 individuals including scientists, local decision-makers, citizens, government partners, industry and First Nations representatives have participated in the program making the CCMN pilot project the most comprehensive look at communitybased monitoring in Canada to date. The CCMN is making progress toward the development of a standardized approach and toolkit for engaging communities in community-based monitoring.
