Conservation groups are warning that new plans for commercial development in the Kananaskis Valley could reignite a bitter struggle over the popular recreation area that has been dormant since 1999. A draft Alberta government plan for the Evan Thomas Provincial Recreation Area calls for expansion of the Nakiska Ski Area and for summer use of the hill, along with new commercial development and expansion of existing commercial facilities such as the Delta and Kananaskis Lodges. The groups worry that the level of development proposed for the Kananaskis Valley could negatively affect wildlife in the region, as well as the opportunity for Albertans to enjoy the scenic wonder of Kananaskis Country.<p>
