CPAWS Nova Scotia Responds to Deep Panuke Offshore Development Proposal

<p>On December 6th, 2002 CPAWS-NS submitted comments on the
environmental assessment (EA) for a proposal to extract natural gas from the Deep Panuke
gas field, southeast of Halifax. The EnCana Corporation intends to
extract gas from the offshore field and then move it to Goldboro, via an
undersea pipeline, from whence it will be shipped to US markets.
CPAWS believes that the project is likely to threaten marine flora
and fauna, and that impacts have been insufficiently assessed thus
far.
