In October, Parks Canada announced that they will be using the pesticide Bacillus thuringiensis (variety Kurstaki) [Btk] in the Waskesiu Vegetation Management Strategy. Despite their initial commitment to stand by National Parks policy section 3.2.4 not to spray pesticides, Parks Canada is considering spraying pesticide by aircraft to kill a naturally occurring forest insect, the spruce budworm.
