Ocean Net

Ocean Net is a new action-oriented, grass roots, non-profit organization founded in Newfoundland and Labrador. Its primary mandate is to help reverse the polluting of the world's oceans and the utterly unacceptable destruction of marine life by lost "ghost" fishing nets. 1. Ocean Net’s FRIENDS OF BEACHES Network!
When asked what they know about Ocean Net, most people’s response would likely say “beach cleanups”. From its founding in 1997, Ocean Net’s core environmental initiative has been the removal of marine litter from community beaches, shorelines and underwater areas throughout NL – an estimated involvement of over 30,000 community volunteers in over 1,500 cleanups. As it enters into its second decade of community environmental stewardship in the province, Ocean Net is proud to announce the restructuring and expansion of these cleanup activities into a new initiative known as the Friends of Beaches Network.
Ocean Net’s Friends of Beaches Network is essentially an expansion of its existing Beach, Shoreline, and Underwater Cleanup Program. There are many communities with volunteers who have shown outstanding commitment to the stewardship and care of their local community beach. The Friends of Beaches Network is an opportunity for these passionate community volunteers to pledge their efforts to the regular maintenance of their community beach.
You can be group of students, a council member, a concerned citizen, or a volunteer firefighter – regardless of who you might be, as long as you care about your community beach we want you on board! Becoming part of the Friends of Beaches Network is as simple as registering with Ocean Net and committing to at least one cleanup a year, showing your community’s concern for a clean marine environment.
