The Environmental Assessment Program ensures compliance with the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA), the 1990 Cabinet Directive requiring policy assessment and the Department of the Environment Act; advises environmental managers and practitioners on scientific and policy matters in relation to EA; promotes the consistent and exemplary use of EA as a means to make environmental sound decisions; and advocates the sustainable use of resources, the conservation of biodiversity and the protection of sensitive ecosystems.
