Recycling certain household materials instead of burning them reduces toxins in the ground, waters and air around Iqaluit. With the help of the Iqaluit Recycling Society, local businesses and the City of Iqaluit, a residential recycling program was introduced in November 2001. Blue boxes, recyclable blue bags for the boxes and information materials were delivered to all residences.
