Powering the Future: How To Solve Our Energy Crisis

Toronto – We depend on energy for everything. With fuel prices still rising, and peak oil and climate change looming on the horizon, energy security is likely the most daunting challenge society will face over the next century.

With over 80 percent of Canadians now living in cities, it’s time to explore how urban residents can be part of a smooth transition to renewable energy.

Powering the Future, an engaging panel discussion this May 19 at Evergreen Brick Works, will explore the many ways that you can tackle this issue in your own homes and backyards.

Co-presented by Evergreen and TREC Renewable Energy Co-operative, and moderated by award-winning CBC host Bob McDonald, the discussion will feature some of Canada’s leading energy experts, and will highlight developments in the renewable energy sector, such as wind and solar.

You’ll learn about efforts underway here and abroad, such as Ontario’s Green Energy and Green Economy Act—which seeks to attract new investment, create jobs in the green economy and protect the environment all at the same time. Plus, find out how you can take advantage of renewable energy credits and what it means to become part of the Feed-In Tariff Program.

Most importantly, you can make your voice heard in all levels of government to increase support for Canadian renewable energy innovations.

Powering the Future will kick off a full weekend of activities at the Kids’ World of Energy Festival (May 21-22), also at Evergreen Brick Works.
