Oil Spill Update (during dinner)

I was eating dinner Tuesday evening when I got a call from John Buchanan from Squamish. He sent me an email about his photo documentary of his visit to the spill site as well as his letter to the Minister below….
Dear Mr Penner,
You are probably aware of the Westwood Anette Spill here in Squamish last year and on Tues there will be a public infomation meeting at the Totem hall. Thought I would share with you my visit to the site today to give you a proper perspective on things. I have tried to give you a boots on the ground honest look at things.

WASH ALL YOUR CLOTHES IN COLD WATER (the whites too)

Between 80 and 90% of the energy used to wash clothes is used for heating the water.
By switching from warm to cold water washing, you could save around $50/year in water heating costs. Plus, clothes washed in cold water retain their colour longer. And don’t worry about the clothes not being cleaned properly – new detergents have been developed to work specifically in cold water.
