LCBO to charge deposits

Starting in February, the LCBO will start slapping a 10- or 20-cent deposit on wine and liquor bottles in a bid to boost recycling.

Most other provinces already have a bottle return system, with deposits similar to the ones being introduced in Ontario.
The deposit system could increase recycling rates of wine and spirit containers by 30 to 40 per cent, according to government documents.
The province yesterday released the details of its five-year contract with Brewers’ Retail Inc.
