Toronto – CPAWS Wildlands League, a not-for-profit environmental organization, is proud to be holding its 3rd annual Paddle The Rouge event on June 18, 2016 at Toronto’s Rouge Beach Park.
Paddle The Rouge will connect the community with nature, while raising funds for CPAWS Wildlands League and the group’s continued work on protecting Ontario parks, especially Rouge Park. With over 7 million residents in the GTA living within an hour of Rouge Park and over 1700 plant and animal species including 23 at risk, Rouge Park’s protection is imperative for the community.
The event is open for all ages, families and corporations to paddle on the Rouge River while witnessing an area of Rouge Park and its pristine natural landscape in a way that is only accessible by paddling. This year, over 200 paddlers are expected to attend, with 50 youth paddlers part of the one-hour Learn to Paddle part of the event.
Paddle the Rouge boat launches take place at 9am and 1pm. The free one-hour Learn to Paddle portion of the event for youth 5-18 years of age will take place at 11am.
The local Métis Council will also be bring their voyageur canoe and will be performing educational and cultural demonstrations including storytelling, fiddle and jig and more. Many will stay for a picnic on the beach after paddling and enjoy the many different activities we have added this year to make Paddle the Rouge a destination for the whole family.
