Smart Growth 2015 Forum

The Ontario Smart Growth Network (OSGN) is hosting a forum for its members and others interested in smart growth in Ontario. The forum follows up on recent research conducted by OSGN about how to increase understanding and promote wide stakeholder engagement around smart growth in Ontario.

The forum will bring together people from various sectors to share information about various approaches and terms used to describe smart growth including building walkable communities, urban villages, complete streets, new urbanism, LEED-ND and other approaches to healthy community design.

Speakers include:
• Jeff Kohl, Community Consultant, Ontario Healthy Communities Coalition
News and recent research from the Ontario Smart Growth Network
• Michelle Noble, Director of Partnerships and Consultation, Ontario Growth Secretariat
Review of the Greenbelt and Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe and the municipality experience
• Susan Swail, Greenbelt Program Manager, Environmental Defence
Engaging communities across the GTA
• Colin Wolfe, Researcher, Toronto Centre for Active Transportation (TCAT)
What to look for in a street: Complete Streets Catalogue, walk/bike friendly awards, audit tools
• Andrew Davidge, Senior Planner, Gladki Planning Associates
What to look for in a development plan

Presentation themes include evaluating developments — how do we know if it’s smart growth as well as how to best engage the broader public in planning for smart growth. A complete list of speakers will be announced shortly.

In the afternoon there will be time for discussion, networking and an opportunity to promote your work to a broad range of people.

The OSGN is a project of the Ontario Healthy Communities Coalition.
