The Eeyou Marine Region Impact Review Board (EMRIRB) was recently established under the Eeyou Marine Region Land Claims Agreement (EMRLCA) to review the environmental and socio-economic impacts of development project proposals in the Eeyou Marine Region and the Eeyou Marine Region Planning Commission (EMRPC) was also recently established under the EMRLCA to develop planning policies, priorities and objectives in the Eeyou Marine Region.
It has been decided that the offices and staff of the EMRPC and the EMRIRB are to be shared and located in the community of Chisasibi, Quebec. The staff will consist of a Regional Planner and an Administrative Assistant.
The EMRPC and EMRIRB are jointly seeking a qualified individual to serve as the Regional Planner in their office in Chisasibi. The Regional Planner will report to the chairpersons of the two EMR entities and will play a key role in the environmental impact screening and review of development projects proposed for the region and will also be responsible for assisting the EMRPC in developing a Land Use Plan for the Eeyou Marine Region.
The Regional Planner will also be responsible for:
• Managing the day-to-day operations of these bodies
• Providing support to EMRPC and EMRIRB meetings and hearings
• Evaluating and reporting on EMRPC and EMRIRB activities and operations
• Administering the operating funds and managing budgets and cash flow, and
• Representing the EMRPC and EMRIRB with co-management partners.
The ideal candidate for this position would be a highly versatile individual with a university degree in planning, biological, environmental, engineering or geological sciences or some other science relevant to the position. Experience with environmental impact assessment processes for development projects or work experience in an environmental field would be considered as assets. Applicants must be able to communicate effectively in English. The ability to speak and/or write Cree or French would be considered an asset.
The position is located in Chisasibi, Quebec and assistance for relocation is available. Housing is available at a subsidized rate. Starting salary is commensurate with level of education and experience and includes a competitive Northern benefits package.
