ON-BILL FINANCING. City Green has been contracted to perform energy assessments for Nelson Hydro’s on-bill financing program. The two-year program aims to reach 200 homes; it already reached 75 homes in just over a month.
FUNDING FOR TEACHERS. EcoSource will be receiving a $9,700 grant from Earth Day Canada Community Environment Fund to develop and deliver Greening Your School Culture, a unique teacher education course designed to support teachers in the Region of Peel to implement environmentally focused action campaigns at their school.
NATURE QUEST. To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Muskoka Heritage Foundation created a series of Nature Quests as an interesting way to learn about Muskoka’s plants, animals, and landscape: Stones, Bones, and Cones, 10 July; Invasive Species, 18 July; Paddle Quest, 25 July; Animal Adaptations, 1 August; Look-See-Paint, August TBA; Species at Risk, 22 August; Muskoka Mushrooms, 1 September; Introduction to Geocaching, September TBA.
FUNDING FOR CYCLING. Greening Nipissing received funding from Mountain Equipment Coop’s 2012 Access and Activity grants for its Public Bike Fix Station Project, a public work stand and bike pump. Access and Activity Grants support programs, initiatives and infrastructure projects that encourage backcountry, urban and near-urban outdoor recreation. Grants range from $500 to $15,000.
CONSERVATION NORTH. See Energy Conservation Projects Annual Report of the Government of Northwest Territories’ Department of Public Works and Services: biomass (wood pellets boilers), solar, heat recovery, energy efficient design and construction. “The NWT is highly dependent on fossil fuels as a primary source for heating and electricity. The desire to reduce GHG emissions from fossil fuels, along with the volatility in fuel prices and the potential for rising fuel costs, makes present energy saving initiatives a sound investment for the future.”
NON-PROFIT GOVERNANCE. Dalhousie University’s national online action-learning program, Improving Non-Profit Governance, is designed to assist nonprofit organizations improve their governance performance. Participants participate online primarily according to their own schedules. Starts September 2012.
