Waterloo –  The common concept of a green economy is growth in income and employment driven by public and private investments while minimizing all forms of environmental impact. There is a growing trend amongst local communities to develop a green economy as an important opportunity for economic growth and for maintaining a competitive edge.

On June 26, Sustainable Waterloo and the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) is hosting an educational forum that will provide an understanding of the global perspective of sustainable development and will demonstrate the presence of the local green economy in Waterloo Region.

Attendees will learn about the discussions and outcomes of RIO+20, a United Nations conference on Sustainable Development attracting over 16,000 groups who share the singular goal of a safer, cleaner, and more equitable future. Attendees will gain knowledge of local applications of sustainable development practiced within the community’s green industries, and the corresponding employment trends for these businesses.
