Seed Collection Mentoring Workshop – London

Trees Ontario, the Forest Gene Conservation Association, the OMNR Ontario Tree Seed Plant and local partners are looking for people who have had some tree seed collection experience and training as well as the interest to become more active in seed collection, to attend our free seed collection mentoring workshop.

In partnership with the Upper Thames River Conservation Area, the workshop will include a review of seed biology and forecasting but will mainly focus on field collection efforts.

(between Fanshawe Park Road – Hwy 22 – and Huron Street)

Time: 9am-4pm

Here is a sample of the agenda for the day:

9:00 a.m. Welcome – Housekeeping
9:15 a.m Seed Biology & Forecasting Review
10:15 a.m Collector Survey Results Review
10:45 a.m Break
11:00 a.m Outdoor Collection Training Tour Starts (box lunch provided en route)
4:00 p.m. Wrap-up

Please dress for field work, rain or shine. Certified Seed Collectors (CSC) will be given priority. Bring your seed collection manuals and workshop handouts. If you are not a CSC, manuals will be available for purchase (by cash or cheque). Everyone should bring gloves, a jack knife or secateurs, a hand lens, binoculars, a notebook and a pen/pencil.
