BC’S First Truly ‘Green’ Music Festival – July 22-24

TOWARDS EDEN – BC’S FIRST TRULY SUSTAINABLE MUSIC FESTIVAL

World music leaders Adam Shaikh, Gaudi, and Pepe Danza hit the stage this summer!

Vancouver, BC/ July 6, 2011 – The land in Nahatlatch Valley has been carefully curated, and is ready to host the inaugural year for a truly sustainable music festival in BC. Towards Eden will incorporate innovative techniques for a responsible, socially conscious gathering, and showcase local/international live and electronic world music. Located just about an hour outside of Hope BC, the festival will be held at the Sandy Pines Campgrounds from July 22-24.

‘Designed with the end in mind’ is the vision for this event that strives to follow nature’s process through bio-mimicry, and the creation of an eco-system that doesn’t produce waste. In short, the goal is to leave the land in even better condition than before the festival. Through wind turbines, solar panels, bike-power, compostable dishes and food grown on-site; the organizers have thought of a myriad of ways to lower their carbon footprint. Simultaneouslythey will be teaching others how to do the same through a comprehensive list of sustainability workshops, all free.

Towards Eden will feature a stacked lineup of local world musicians, and international heavy-hitters who have come on board in support of a socially responsible music festival. Juno nominee Adham Shaikh will keep the crowd on their feet with global beats, as Gaudi brings his edgy UK style through dub, world and nu-beat. Local favourite Pepe Danza serves up a high-energy jungle mix of live percussion like no other, while Ras Nikhilesh rounds out the lineup with a Damien Marley feel to his reggae sound, and the loveable Folk singer Buckman Coe sooths the soul.

The weekend will have three stages to choose from: The Main Stage, The Bus Shelter – an actual bus with a VJ station, and a built in projector, plus a Jam Shelter for communal jams into the night. There will also be a KidsZone, a healing tent, yoga, and a slew of workshops on sustainability. “We hope to spread our vision of sustainability through a weekend of awesome music, creative ideas, and collaboration,” says festival organizer Ash Bigdeli. “Towards Eden will strive for the lowest carbon footprint through this unique project that will leaveenvironmentalists, music lovers, and the local community in a state of purebliss.”

Passes for Towards Eden are $160 for the full weekend. All prices include camping, vehicle camping, and parking. The Towards Eden website has an online carpooling page, to help reduce the number of vehicles making the trip. Help out a friendly festival-goer by filling your empty seats!
