While cities only occupy two percent of the planet’s landmass, they consume over 75 percent of the Earth’s resources. Increasing urbanization is forcing transformation on a scale unprecedented in human history.
This June 23, in a special breakfast presentation at Evergreen Brick Works, futurists Ayesha and Parag Khanna, Directors of the Hybrid Reality Institute, will explore the rise of Smart Cities throughout the globe.
They argue that many urban centres are poised to embrace emerging technologies in a push toward sustainable growth and innovation.
Moderated by Macrowikinomics author Don Tapscott, this lively discussion will focus on ambitious urban sustainability projects that ten years ago would have been unimaginable.
Close to home, Vancouver is aspiring to be the greenest city in the world. In the United Arab Emirates, Masdar is set to become the first zero-waste, zero-carbon city, while transit innovations have transformed Curitiba, Brazil, and master-planned smart cities are in the works in Songdo, South Korea.
