From June 5 to 9, 2011, the inaugural Equinox Summit: Energy 2030 will bring together leading international scientists, as well as exceptional young leaders in politics, policy making, civil society and business, to work together to tackle today’s energy challenges.
The event is spearheaded by Waterloo Global Science Initiative (WGSI), a non-profit partnership between the University of Waterloo and the Perimeter Institute, a world-leading centre for theoretical physics.
Based on its mandate of catalyzing long-term thinking and solutions for the world through cutting edge science and technology, WGSI will present a highly focused international conference intended to advance dialogue on long-range policy and investments in technological solutions for sustainability.
Top scientists in low-carbon technologies, and a forum of young industry and policy experts, will pool their expertise to create a realistic roadmap from the energy challenges of today, to a more sustainable future in 2030. Researchers and decision makers will collaborate both in closed-door sessions and in free public presentations about the next generation of low-carbon solutions for the production, distribution and storage of electricity.
Over five days, Summit participants will develop an actionable blueprint for 2030, short-listing the most promising long-term solutions for the production, distribution and storage of low-carbon electricity. Post-summit updates and a 2013 Equinox conference will benchmark our progress and follow-up on the 2011 recommendations.
