REAP Down to Earth Week connects Calgarians to sustainable lifestyles

Thanks goes to Stephanie Jackman for sharing…

Calgary’s only sustainable business association, REAP, is pleased to announce its second annual festival of
sustainable living from April 6-11, 2010.

The week long celebration includes Calgary’s first “Healthy Families, Healthy Planet” Report and a panel of experts on detoxifying your home.

A business lecture series, co-hosted by Calgary Public Library and presented by First Calgary Savings, will feature authors and local business people to provide practical advice about the business of sustainability. And an evening presentation by Dr. David Korten – in partnership with The Arusha Centre, Thrive, Parkland Institute and Public Interest Alberta – will
provide practical proposals for a future in which economic power is rooted in people and communities

To wrap up REAP Down to Earth Week on April 11th, there’s Food For Thought; a chance for Calgarians to sample locally and sustainably grown food, prepared and presented by independent restaurants, followed by a screening of the film Food Fight. Live music by Chris Velan will conclude the evening with a portion of proceeds going to 1% For the Planet.

This event is presented in partnership with Earth Day Canada, Calgary Food Policy Council and Community Natural Foods.

Throughout the week, learn about local food systems with local feature menus at restaurants Community Natural Foods Market Café, Dairy Lane, Open Range, River Café, The Coup, The District, Velvet, and Wild Rose Brewery & Taproom.

All of the events during REAP Down to Earth Week will be bullfrogpowered with 100% green electricity. This means that Bullfrog Power will inject carbon-free green power onto the Alberta electricity grid to match the amount of electricity used by the events.
