Monday Jan. 18 is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Here’s to a nonviolent revolution in all justice movements!
In 1964, King became the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for his work to end racial segregation and racial discrimination through civil disobedience and other non-violent means. By the time of his death in 1968, he had refocused his efforts on ending poverty and opposing the Vietnam War, both from a religious perspective. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Luther_King,_Jr.
“Human salvation lies in the hands of the creatively maladjusted.”

At War With Democracy: How Can We Stop Harper?
Tues. Jan. 19, 7 p.m.
Bahen Centre, Room 2145, 40 St. George St, U of T
Speaker: Michelle Robidoux, International Socialists
Stephen Harper’s decision to suspect parliament until March has sparked anger across the country. While Harper claims this is “routine”, even his former chief of staff Tom Flanagan said “Everybody knows that Parliament was prorogued in order to shut down the Afghan inquiry.” Join us for a discussion into what is behind the prorogation, the political response to it, and what we can do to turn this anger into a movement to defend against Harper’s right-wing agenda.
Organized by the U of T International Socialists.
