The new Getting to Green: Energy Efficient and Sustainable Housing curriculum designed by the Sauder School of Business, Real Estate Division, in partnership with City Green Solutions, educates real estate professionals on how to identify and describe the benefits of “green” building components in residential development, sales, and appraisal. With the marketplace increasingly focused on “green valuation”, this course is aimed at real estate professionals who want to speak with confidence about “green” property features when dealing with clients.
“Uncertain energy prices, greenhouse gas reduction regulations and a slowing economy are causing buyers to pause and consider the high operating costs in homes and buildings,” says Paula Steele, City Green Solutions. “Top real estate professionals are now familiarizing themselves with tools such as home energy rating systems, green mortgages, homeowner renovation grant programs and eco-friendly product labels that will help their clients identify high-performance homes.”
The Getting to Green course is available in a self-study or webinar format. An online webinar session will be offered on October 2, 2009 at 8-10 am PST. See www.realestate.ubc.ca/cpd to register. For real estate professionals, this course may be eligible for credit towards professional development and continuing education requirements.
“Real estate professionals are on the front-lines of the building industry shift towards promoting more sustainable building practices,” says André Gravelle, of the Sauder School of Business. “We are proud to be providing courses on the forefront of this exciting market transformation.”
