Join Us – tck tck tck Flashmob Wake Up Call

Toronto, ON – We are 82 days away from
the climate talks in Copenhagen, where world representatives are expected
to come up with a climate treaty that sets new binding targets on greenhouse
gas (GHG) emissions. Their decisions will significantly affect us all
– plus our descendants throughout this century and beyond. They
better get this one right.

Let’s help the Canadian
government do the right thing.

As part AVAAZ’s and 350.org‘s tcktcktick
campaign
, and one of hundreds of similar events happening worldwide,
the gang at Carbon Slim will holding a warm up to C-Day’s massive Ottawa rally
Oct 24
.

This Monday, Sept 21 at Yonge-Dundas Square in Toronto, join them for a little flashmob to show your support for real climate action from
our leaders.

Let us know you’ll be
joining us by visiting:

own flash mob

Here’s what you
can do:

  • Convene at noon at the
    southwest corner of Yonge-Dundas Square
    .
  • Have your cell phone,
iPhone, Blackberry or whatever will work.
  • The plan is
to coordinate phone clocks and set the alarms to 12:18 pm (signifying
December 18, the last day of Copenhagen climate talks).
  • Then the group will
    disperse.
  • At 12:18 pm, with alarms going
off, the group will join together, make noise, and email or call our MPs and Environment
Minister to let them know we want Canada to support science-based GHG reduction
    targets.
  • Someone
will film all of this and send the footage to AVAAZ to
    send to the UN.

Postcards to Prentice
and info on C-Day Fill the Hill will be handed out as well. Look for anyone wearing
their C-Day shirts, each with a large letter that will spell out
Climate Day when assembled together.

What’s at Stake?

Our
government remains committed to reducing Canada’s total greenhouse
gas emissions by 20 percent from 2006 levels by 2020 and 60 to 70 percent by
2050.

Environment
Minister Jim Prentice tells us that Canada has the tar
sands to keep in mind. We tell him that this is absolutely unacceptable.
Canada’s targets fall far below science-based targets of 40 percent
from 1990 levels by 2020 and 80 to 90 percent by 2050. The government seems to
think that it is possible to negotiate with mother nature. We Canadians need to
remind the government that no one, not even the Canadian government, can
negotiate with the planet. We need to steer away from the carbon economy
and shift into green.

The timing is absolutely
critical.
Too much is at stake. Join us! Email Prentice and your MP. Join us on
Sept 21 and join us on Oct 24. Help make climate change history.
