NEW AWARD. Seven Ontario municipalities delivering Green Communities Canada’s Well Aware program are joint winners of the 2009 Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ CH2M HILL Sustainable Community Awards. “By helping to protect wells, the program also allows municipalities to postpone the expansion of existing municipal water and wastewater systems or the development of new systems.”
GREEN HOTLINE. Elora Environment Centre‘s new Green Hotline helps 140,000 Wellington/Dufferin residents get better information about water safety, non-toxic garden maintenance, green cleaning products, air quality, real vs. artificial Christmas trees and composting. “This environmental resource will also assist Canadian companies marketing green products because we’ll provide a list of Ontario made products”, says Lynda Bausinger, Project Manager. 1-877-354-5006.
MEMBERSHIP. Executive Director Clifford Maynes recently presented to potential new Green Communities Canada member organizations in Sudbury, Welland, and Cobourg. The Cobourg group is debating whether to focus on advocacy or “services” (program delivery). Agreed: one or the other needs to take precedence, or the group must split into two.
ECODRIVING. Windfall Ecology Centre hired a new ecoDriver coordinator to focus on securing additional funding and workshops.
